Shingle Habitat in Rye Bay

There is a great range of shingle habitat types in Rye Bay.

We have recognised the following categories,

· Shingle strandline

· Shingle ridges

· Saline lagoons

· Saltmarsh

· Freshwater Pits - including reedbeds and sandy margins.

Very little of this habitat has escaped damage by man’s activities (some has even been created by it!) and we have recognised the following categories.

· Extraction

· Vehicle tracks

· Sea Defences

· Agriculture

· Fires

· Domestic tipping

· Development
